ABSTRACT

The family is a unit where members co-habit peacefully. In that is included compassion- mercy-loving kindness and mutual understanding. The family unit can exist without complications as long as it is welded in peace and unity. The unity of the family is in the hands of the elders, there. Parents must lead exemplary lives. Performing their duties. As the cullagosinga sutta in the majjhima nikaya states although there many members they should have only one mind. That paves the way for living with understanding of the family unit.

According to the Singalovada sutta performance of one?s duties also contributes to unity. The family is not if one emphasizes only one?s rights. Duties are of principal importance.

Today, due to inter-family problems spouses are separated and suffer. They give suffering to children also. Children suffer primarily due to family problems. The main reason for this is the lack of mutual understanding and non-discussion of family problems together. Not listening to each other?s views and frequent chatter contribute to this.

But there is a methodology in Buddhism to solve family problems. Many suttas in Tipitaka give examples for this. The way of Buddhism is to go to the root of the problem and seek clarification thereby. This can be described as the way for the world to solve their problems.
